Photopolymer gravure is a process which allows me to combine photography with the traditional art of printmaking. It enables me to create prints with soft highlights and deep velvety blacks; that are rich in texture and with a unique tactile quality.
I take the photographs on monochrome film with a 1967 Hasselblad medium format camera and process the film using the traditional darkroom method. In the print studio I transfer the selected image onto a light sensitive metal plate so that it is etched with an impression of the photographic image. I then ink the plate by hand before printing with an etching press onto Somerset paper.
Each print is a limited edition and is signed and numbered.
